ROMED2 to be launched in Germany, 24th October 2014 - Allianz Forum, Berlin

On the upcoming 24th October 2014, Mr Ulrich Bunjes, Special Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe for Roma issues, will launch the ROMED2 Programme in Germany during an event organised at the Allianz Forum in Berlin.

The event will be opened by a commemoration ceremony at the Memorial for the Roma and Sinti victims of the national socialist regime together with the  Zentralrat Deutscher Sinti und Roma, followed by opening speeches at the Allianz Forum by Mr Ulrich Bunjes as well as representatives of the Federal Ministry of Justice and the Hildegard Lagrenne Foundation – acting as contact organization for ROMED in Germany. Mr Christoph Leucht, National Focal Point in Germany for the implementation of the ROMED2 Programme and member of the international pedagogical team of the programme, will present the concepts and processes aimed to be initiated through the ROMED2 Programme – Democratic Governance and Community Participation through mediation. The afternoon will be dedicated to discussions around the strengthening of the political commitment of local and national authorities in ensuring respect and equal opportunities towards Roma.

Four municipalities have confirmed their participation in the programme and attendance in the Launching event among which: Hamburg, Mannheim, Berlin-Mitte and Bremen. Additional municipalities will be invited to join the programme in the months to come.

On the 23rd October 2014 a National Workshop will gather different stakeholders from the selected municipalities, to discuss around three main topics: the implementation of the ROMED2 Programme in other European countries and planning of the ROMED2 programme in Germany; developing democratic governance and community participation through mediation; fostering democratic participation of the Roma and Sinti families as well as the improvement of the dialogue between Roma and Sinti families and public institutions.
