The 127-page ROMED1 Trainer's handbook is based on five years of implementation of the Council of Europe and European Commission (DG EAC) joint programme “ROMED1 – Intercultural mediation for Roma communities”. It comprises 26 modules and 24 handouts used in two training sessions of 3 to 4 days and a 6 months' practice period in between the two sessions.
To achieve integration and social cohesion, mediation is essential to bridge gaps between Roma communities and public institutions, such as schools and health facilities, but it also increases links to local and regional administrations and Roma communities.
Since 2011, ROMED1 has been operating in 22 countries to promote Roma integration throughout Europe. It has trained some 1,500 mediators, most of them Roma and others who have a very good knowledge of Roma communities where they work. Based on this rich experience, the handbook serves as a useful tool for national and local authorities, NGOs and others involved in Roma-related projects at the local level.
The handbook is available for download in the Resources section of our website, or by clicking here.
